Glen Parva Parish Gala 18 August 2007

A very wet Saturday afternoon did not deter people from supporting the Glen Parva Parish Gala on Dorothy Avenue Playing Field.

Miss Blaby, Kate Lees Emmanuel, brouht a little ray of sunshine to the proceedings by opening the event at 2pm after which Kate mingled amongst the other attractions and stalls. At 4.00pm Kate was accompanied by Rev E Green to present the prizes for the Garden & Produce show organised on behalf of the Parish Council by the 'Friends of Glen Parva'.

Other attractions included a performance by Steel Revolution Steel Band, Tabla Drumming by Narshi Parmar, a demonstration of birds of prey, Punch & Judy shows, wood turning demonstration, stilt walker, balloon modelling, donkey rides, children's fair rides, face painting and bouncy castle.

The was also a fire safety demonstration by the Fire Service and the Crime and Disorder Action Group was also in attendance to offer advice.

Fitness activities and the 637 Youth Bus were provided by Blaby District Council and Adrian Lane, Riverside Ranger, from Leicester City Council attended with his information display.

Cream teas and refreshments were provided and served by Glen Hills WI.

However the proposed worm charming event was cancelled due to the poor weather.

Stall holders braved the elements by selling their wares and tombola tickets and many brave souls ventrured out to show their support.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Radio Leicester Ruby Rainbow Appeal and the County Air Ambulance.

Glen Parva Parish Council would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and support in helping to make this event a success despite the extremely wet weather.
